Chrysler is recalling more than 40,000 cars to fix ignition switch

Chrysler today announced the recall of more than 40,000 vehicles over the ignition switch glitch. These vehicles include the 2010 model year Chrysler 300, Dodge Challenger and Charger, Jeep Commander and Grand Cherokee, and Dodge Ram.

According to Chrysler, drivers may be able to remove the key from the ignition switch before putting the shifter in park mode.

“This could result in the potential for unintended vehicle movement and could increase the risk of a crash,” Chrysler said in a statement to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Chrysler  will begin the safety recall in July of 2010 to inspect affected vehicles and if required, Chrysler will replace the wireless ignition module for free.
