Vauxhall and Opel are developing a successor to the Calibra coupe, and that the four-seater version will follow. The new Calibra coupe and four-seater could go on sale as early as 2013. In order for Opel and its Vauxhall to make a profit out of this partnership, the Calibra coupe will need to be built at least 30,000 units a year.
“We would feel a lot more confident about some of these projects if Buick, Chevrolet in North and South America and Saab were sharing volumes and risk,” told by an unnamed GM Europe source.
Currently, GM is trimming its fat, such a niche car like the Calibra coupe will not likely make to the GM talk table. As for Saab, it is no longer part of GM, so that is not an option. It is likely Opel and Vauxhall will have to folk up the dough to make the Calibra coupe happens.
Stay tuned for now….we’ll have more details in a month or so.
