It is really hard beat the top dog economy car like the Honda Civic in sales volume, but Mazda3 managed to pull away to the top as the best seller car in Canada. Much of its lead has to do with attractiveness, sportiness and afford-ability of the Mazda3.
The Mazda3 sold about 5,436 units in April, which outpaced the Civic by 135 units. This makes the Mazda3 the best seller year-to-date, with 17,198 sold from January to the end of April, versus 17,095 Honda Civics. And the third place goes to Toyota Corolla, which sold about 13,059 units. The rest of the top ten cars were Hyundai Elantra, Hyundai Accent, Chevrolet Cobalt, Ford Fusion, Toyota Matrix, Ford Focus and Volkswagen Golf.
Not only the Mazda3 managed to took the sales lead in Canada, it also took a big chunk of the sales volume in the United States as well. The top ten economy cars are catching with the Honda Civic, which has been king of sales in the compact economy car category for quite a long time. Fierce competition in the economy car class made the Civic delayed its release for 2010 model. Honda is in the process of redesigning the 2011 Honda Civic to out do the competition with more attractiveness and better fuel economy.
