Update as 2/24/2010
Good news! Just last week, Jaromir Cech, Toyota designer, confirmed with Autocar that the Toyota FT-86 Concept’s looks will mostly retain in the production model. Only a few minor changes in the front and rear ends to meet safety regulations. The front end has to be raised a little to meet pedestrian impact standards.
The Toyota FT-86 so far the most exciting sports car that came out of Toyota since the last Supra model. That was like a decade and a half ago? Toyota image was so boring that I fell asleep through its reign in the past decade.

The Toyota camp really need some excitement in their design of production cars. Lately, it has been producing practical cars for grocery shopping and camping trips. The automaker is in desperate need of an excitement boost, or should we dare to say “a kick in the arse”. Then comes along the Toyota FT-86 Concept, which resemblance to the FT-HS concept shown at the Detroit Auto Show a 2 years ago.
As we have seen in many spy photos and auto shows of the Lexus LF Concept car that is supposed to replace the Toyota Supra model, this new debut has come to almost full production as it gets. The Lexus LF Concept is too costly as a production car, but we hope to see it will be produced somewhere in the future to compete with other super cars such as Nissan GTR, Corvette, and many like it. Finally, Toyota has satisfied with its design of the FT-86. This concept car will probably be the production car for next year, and will be replacing the Toyota Supra model. Lets just hope they will call it the Supra because the name Supra has a sense of an icon already in the import racing world.
The Toyota FT-86 Concept is developed between Toyota Motor Company and Subaru. Subaru probably helps with the designing of the chassis due to its well known handling design in rally cars. The Toyota FT-86 will get at the least a 2.0 liter, four cylinder boxer engine, which will be making between 200 and 250 HP will power the rear wheels through a manual six speed transmission. That is a hefty horsepower for such a small displacement engine.
