The new 2011 Lincoln MKX Crossover got an upgrade in its interior design, which includes connect technology that provides a smarter, safer, simpler way to connect drivers with in-car digitals. Drivers can easy access to media or vehicle information at the tip of their fingers through an 8-inch touchscreen, five-way switches on the steering wheel or by voice commands. Now that is really in touch with your car!  Shall we say,” Man and machine as one?”  From these controls, drivers would be able to turn on cabin lights, music, adjust fan speed or music volume.

malibuVcamry2

GM has been gearing up to boost consumer confidence in the past few years with its campaign slogan “May the Best Car Win” as the car guide for new consumers in the family car market. The ad was very effective in that it extends the 60-day satisfaction guarantee.  Its ad campaign also dare to challenge Toyota’s bread and butter Camry at point blank.  The Toyota Camry has an already established reputation of being a reliable and economic car.  But the Chevy Malibu’s reputation is also getting up there, just not way up there yet.  So what are the selling points for the Malibu to dare take on this challenge?

The big question that always comes back to us for nearly 5 decades is “What is better, Camaro or Mustang”?  Well Motor Trend put that question to test again, but this time, it did it with an uneven match up.   Is it because that Chevy didn’t have a production supercharged Camaro SS version available to drag race with the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500?

2010 Convertible Camaro by NCE

NCE Camaro

Chevrolet unveiled the Camaro Coupe Concept at the 2006 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.  It got good reviews, and the critics are liking it very much.  Chevrolet decided to build the concept Camaro as a production model by the year 2010.  Chevrolet announced that the production model will retain much of the look from the concept model.  At the beginning of 2009, Chevrolet announced that a Camaro Convertible will also join the Camaro family.   Let’s pass forward, this is summer of 2009, and we’ve have seen the production model is already selling in Chevrolet dealership all over the country.  Chevrolet stay tru to its word, the production model looks almost identical to the concept model.  So far we haven’t seen the convertible model yet, but have no fear because Newport Convertible Engineering has come to the rescue.

NCE has successfully completed the first 2010 Chevy Camaro Convertible conversion.  Not only NCE chopped off the roof, but it also added its 24-inch wheels in the back and 22-inch wheels in the front.  Chrome grills are also added in front.  NCE claims that the convertible top does not added additonal weight to the car, however, the rear seats seem a bit narrower to accommodate the folding of the fabric top.  Access to the trunk from the rear seats now is unvailable due to the additional support structure added to the Camaro SS when the hard top is no longer there.  The top is constructed of fine German canvas with insulated material to keep road noise down.

It takes about 10 seconds to open and close the convertible top by releasing two latches in front and pressing a rocker switch.  A rear defroster is also included in the convertible package.  When riding the there is little wind buffeting and the cabin noise seemed quite, but the ride its a bit rough when you hit unven pavement on the road due to the large wheels.

The price for the Camara Convertible conversion is about $16,000, and you will have to provide the Camaro.

From the track performance perspective, the 3.8 Track model sprint from 0-60 mph in an impressive 5.9-second. While the  2.0T with the manual transmission accomplished the same task in 6.9 seconds, which is average compare with other four-banger car in the market.

GM Volt Gets 230 Miles per Gallon

Posted by Vincent Van On October - 7 - 2009 2 COMMENTS

gm-volt

The new GM Volt expected to arrive by mid of next year 2010.  The Volt is the first pure electrical vehicle which is driven by an electrical motor.  The motor uses  electricity generated by an internal gasoline combustion engine in addition to a battery pack.  GM did the MPG test based on EPA’s draft guideline for determine miles per gallon.

In normal condition, the Volt uses power from its battery pack to run the electric motor up to a 40-mile range. When the power in the battery pack reaches below 35%, the small internal combustion engine automatically starts to generate electricity to power the motor as well as recharging the battery.  With the battery pack and internal gasoline engine, the Volt can reach up to a total range of 300 miles. If you have an outlet in your garage, the Volt’s battery pack can be recharged from a standard home outlet.  For those who live in an apartment with a carport, this could be a hinder because most of those carports don’t have an electrical outlet.  But this won’t be a break point of your buying decision because of the Volt’s 230 MPG.  Just hope that GM’s claim stay true to production.

As for pricing goes, the first production due this mid 2010 will cost about $40,000.  At this price range, the Volt will be out of reach for many buyers whose main reason was to save money on gasoline.   Give or take, you will get about $5,000 incentive from the government for buying a green car.  Even with that kinda of incentive, it won’t offset by the initial pricing very much.
